Well I voted this morning and all I really want to say is this "CAN IT BE DONE NOW!!!!" I don't know about you but this was one of the most exhausting elections that I have experienced in my life. I am not a highly political person so this "ground-breaking" election was almost more annoying than anything.
A couple of thoughts as we wait for the results.
- No matter who ends up in the oval office, we are instructed to pray for them. We do not have the luxury of limiting our prayers to the candidates that we voted for. Scripture tells us that we are to pray for all those in positions of power or authority. This means pray for the President, all government officials, the CEO's of your company, your boss, your pastors and church leaders, your parents, etc.
- The God I serve has know the outcome of this election for eons and He knows how it will be used to serve His purpose. He knows the struggles we will go through, the triumphs we will have, and every change that will take place in the next 4 years. My God has the power to "bring up kings and to put them down again." If you don't believe me just take a look at the story of Saul and David in the Old Testament. Nothing is beyond the power of God.
- My citizenship is not limited to the United States of America. In fact, I believe this to be a citizenship that takes a back seat to my part in the Kingdom of God. I often see many Christ-followers living as if the entirety of their life depends on what takes place in our country and with it's leaders. This is not how we are supposed to live. We often need to remember that our primary allegiance is to our God and His Kingdom, and His Kingdom is not limited to borders, or leaders, or nationalities, or even time. We are a part of a Kingdom that will never have an end.
- The leader that I serve is far more qualified for the position than any man or woman will ever be. My leader never makes a mistake, never sins, never needs to make apologies, never needs to try to remember what He said in the past, never even needs to sleep. I do not know of a single person that could even come close to one of those things, let alone live up to all of them. My leader really is the "Commander in Chief!"
So from one relieved "citizen" to another, I wish you peaceful sleep tonight as you lay your head on you pillow. I know that no matter the outcome of this election, I will sleep soundly tonight because my Leader is greater than the leader that He just allowed to fill that tiny Oval Office.
